Endota Spa Peptide-8 Hyaluronic Serum

Review - Endota Spa New Age Peptide-8 Hyaluronic Serum

Following on my last blog post on Endota Spa's electro-mesotherapy facial, I thought I'd expand more on this $180 serum that was used in that facial.

Claims

"Revolutionise your skincare in one simple step. Our most powerful, super-hydrating, all-in-one repair serum is clinically tested to target all the visible signs of ageing.

Dramatically improve fine lines and relax deep wrinkles with this technologically advanced, multi-tasking peptide treatment. Bursting with antioxidant-rich botanical stem cells and skin-soaking sodium hyaluronate, this supercharged serum firms your complexion and instantly plumps and smooths with a high dose of essential moisture."

Ingredients

It is a decent serum, containing a fair few good ingredients. "Peptide-8" was a featured ingredient, so what is peptide-8?

Acetyl Octapeptide-3 : also known as "SNAP-8", it's an amino acid sequence (peptide) which is just slightly longer than, and somewhat similar to, another peptide called acetyl hexapeptide-8 (or Argireline). Argireline is said to target the formation of wrinkles caused by facial movements. There were extensive studies done to Argireline but it is still controversial as to whether it can penetrate skin in order to target where it is supposed to. There were positive effects on smoothing wrinkles but they could be due to increased surface hydration rather than exerting a botox-like action. As to SNAP-8, there's even less evidence to support its action (one manufacturer study comparing Argireline & SNAP-8).

Other notable ingredients are:

Glycerin, Sodium hyaluronate, sodium PCA: water-retaining hydrators

Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate: vitamin C derivative

Nicotinamide, panthenol: vitamin B3 and B5 respectively

User experience

Ingredients are important but user experience is always the most important consideration for me. On that front, this is one of the most pleasant serums I have used. I really enjoy the jelly-like texture. It is slightly tacky but it does get fully absorbed eventually to a form a silky finish. Very easy to layer, never pills or balls up with other products. It has a good slip, so not much product is needed but I use 5 "drops" anyway just to make sure I am putting a decent amount of active ingredients on my skin. Even though it is fragrance free, I can detect a very faint sweet smell which adds to the experience.

The dropper bottle though, is a let down. Given the jelly-like viscous texture I think it would have been easier to dispense in an airless pump bottle. The lid also never closes tightly so I can't take this anywhere and I also worry that I might knock it over.

Results

I think it certainly plumps and hydrates. I also like the smooth feeling that I get after applying it, but I have lines and deep wrinkles on my neck and they have not disappeared. Overall it is a decent serum, but not something that I would purchase in a rush because there are more affordable products that I prefer to use.
