Dermalogica Daily Resurfacer - clear skin in one week

Updated: Jul 13, 2020

Now... How's everyone going after 5 long weeks of physical distancing? I am starting to feel lock down fatigue but we must all hang in there...

Here is another product that I use to fake salon-quality treatments. They are great to use in between microdermabrasion sessions or before special occasions.

What does it do?

In short, the Dermalogica Daily Resurfacer are 2-in-1 exfoliating pads (physical and chemical exfoliation in one). The textured pads are just big enough to fit onto a finger. The fabric exfoliates skin gently when it is massaged on the skin in a circular motion. The pads are soaked in a chemical exfoliating liquid, predominantly BHA (salicylic acid) - which clears congestion, with ancillary AHAs in the form of fruit extracts.

As opposed to the Ella Baché Charcoal Foaming Mask I reviewed in my last blog post (which is an AHA/glycolic acid treatment), Dermalogica Daily Resurfacer is a BHA treatment. Rule of thumb: AHA - for glow and radiance; BHA - to clear congestion.

In addition to exfoliants, the liquid also contains brightening and hydrating ingredients (e.g. rice extract, sodium hyaluronate) in small amounts.

Results

My skin can be prone to congestion once every now and then even though it is not particularly oily. Shown below is the difference in skin condition after 7 days of consecutive use. I usually continue for another 7 days to further improve texture.

Above: left - before use. right - after 7 days' use of Dermalogica Daily Resurfacer.

Tips on application

To get the maximum effectiveness of the exfoliant, use daily resurfacer on double-cleansed and pat-dried skin. There is no need to rinse afterwards, I follow up with a hydrating serum and a moisturiser.

Although the fabric does not feel excessively abrasive, I keep the pressure against skin quite light to avoid over-exfoliation.

Both sides of the pads are the same - I use one side on my face, and then turn it over to use the other side for my neck and behind my ears.

There are a total of 35 doses in one box ($110). It is designed to be one course of treatment to be used in one month. However, I only have to use a maximum of 2 weeks (14 doses) to see amazing results. One box gives me at least 2 courses of treatments which makes the cost a lot more affordable.
