The agony of loving a discontinued product

I thought my search for the perfect shampoo and conditioner was finally over.

My hair was a mess. Dry and frizzy. I have it coloured every 4 weeks (I am blessed by my parents for the perfect genes - the perfect hair-greying genes). And more recently, I dip my hair in a (swimming) pool of chlorine a few times a week. That doesn't help.

I did not believe in organic beauty products. I did not know if the additional benefit (if there was any) justifies the price mark up. But then, I believe in a good sale. So when David Jones had a Grown Alchemist sale, I picked up the shampoo and conditioner.

They were the best thing I ever put on my hair. My hair has improved in a matter of weeks. Precisely, 4 weeks. I can't help touching my soft, silky and glossy hair every 5 minutes.

Not sure if it's because they're organic. I don't know, but I don't care.

I thought I could finally fall in love. And I did. I thought that was it - search was over.

One day, I saw discount tickets on those familiar brown bottles in David Jones. Those big red discount tickets that I seldom miss. I seldom miss a good sale.

First it was joy. A sale!

Then it was horror. I brought two bottles over to first sale assistant I can find.

"Please don't tell me they are discontinued."

"Oh!" she said, sympathetically, "they are. See those white bottles over there? They are going to replace the old ones".

No-ooo!!! I thought I was going to faint. I frantically read the writing on the white bottles. They are not the same.

"Can you sell me every bottle you have?"

"Are you sure? They expire in 12 months." Damn organic products.

Now I have these to hang onto. At least I know I will have great hair for the next 12 months.
